The MLH Summer League is back with Hack at Home's descendant! We'll be running four different tracks for you to hack on over the course of the weekend. Friday will be loaded up with workshops to give you all the time you need to hack on Saturday and Sunday.

Best Hardware Hack presented by Digi-Key

Build a hardware hack with what you have at home or use emulators to simulate hardware for your hack. The best project will receive Raspberry Pi Starter Kits for each team member.

Best Educational Hack

Create a hack that teaches the user something new! Best project will win a Yubikey Security Key per team member (up to 4)

Best Silly Hack

Create a silly, useless, pointless, funny hack! Winners will receive a Casio Calculator Watch for each team member (up to 4)

Happy at Home Hack

Create a hack that helps folks stay happy at home! Your project could tackle at home productivity and entertainment or it could make working remotely easier and help you connect with friends and family remotely. Anything that helps make you or other Happy at Home.

Winners will receive a 3 Month Audible Subscription.

Best Arts Hack

Built any hack that incorporates the arts! This could mean visual art, music, theatre, performing arts, literature, etc.

Winners will receive a 3-month Skillshare subscription.

Eligibility

This event open to hackers, all over the world, who are students at the time of the hackathon or who have graduated within the last 12 months. Students can include high school students, university undergraduate or postgraduate students, and people who are in vocational training such as apprenticeships.

Judging Criteria

  • Originality
    Has this project been done before at hackathons in the past? How creative is their project in solving the problem at hand?
  • Technology
    How technically impressive was the hack? Was the technical problem the team tackled difficult? Did it use a particularly clever technique or did it use many different components? Did the technology involved make you go "Wow"?
  • Design
    Did the team put thought into the user experience? How well designed is the interface?
  • Completion
    Does the hack work? Did the team achieve everything they wanted?
  • Learning
    Did the team stretch themselves? Did they try to learn something new? What kind of projects have they worked on before?
  • Adherence to Theme
    Does the hack adhere to the event's theme? Does it implement that theme fully or just partially?
